This was a project where I had all creative freedom with in regards to how I wanted this shoot to look. I had decided that I wanted a locational story to be played out as the lyrics progressed. This is also the first time I wrote a spoken work piece which being out of my comfort zone is an understatement when it comes to people listening to it. I wanted this story to portray what the lyrics gave, giving essences of deep thought, a time of hard questions in the middle, and a conclusion of of joy in the Freedom we have.
After a couple hours of location scouting in Santa Barbara, we landed in this beautiful business complex (Ontraports Neighbors) with a garden surrounding a small pond. We thought this would be the perfect location to show the skills and talents of our cellist Joshua Zaejak. We were looking for a location that shared the serenity and peace that the song gave in its melody. Bringing the cello to life with the surrounding shrubbery and architecture brought a beautiful video as a result.
After hours of practice and studying with Drone camera work, This is the one of the first shoots where we really utilized capturing the Elwood Bluffs with some epic drone shots.
The Blessing was our Biggest Production to date. Over the course of 6 months in 2020, we planned, plotted, and shot this amazing piece with the perfect mixture of scenery and tech. We wanted to guide the viewers through the song with two main phases of the video: The first being a calm, natural introduction to what was to come, guiding the viewer to feeling what the singers feel and being within the same mind space. The second phase was a night shoot in more of an outdoor concert style, featuring LED spotlights and fog machines, which gives a grand and larger feel towards the lyrics and melody.
One of the coolest places to be in Santa Barbara is in the mountains overviewing the city. Famously, there is a commonly visited water tower which is where we had decided to shoot this video. This was our Debut of our drone footage to our viewers and it could not have been a better location. What I loved about this video is we got to portray the journey of the singers in the video, from the time they get up, to the time they leave location. Where we can come to a place and give all we can give, to the time we come off the mountain and enter the world and its troubles again.
This video has a special place in my heart. I've been wanting to create the prefect piece for this song, and would not want to do it with anyone else other than my sister Saharra. We wanted to bring simplicity into this video. We wanted to beauty of the lyrics mesh with the rocks and leaves surrounding the creek. This was also my first time experimenting with a new angle that features the camera over my shoulder looking to my sister, giving them the highlight but not totally leaving me out of the shot.
